Zechs Marquise
I spent the weekend shooting bands at Fun Fun Fun Fest, which I did more for the photo experience than to see any of the bands (as I’m hardly familiar with any of them). However, Zechs Marquise played the aftershow, and I couldn’t resist being totally giddy when Fernie and I got to meet Marcel and Marfred Rodríguez-Lopez!
I can’t post any of the live photos from the festival just yet because they are waiting to be published elsewhere, but for the time being I’ll show off a few from the aftershow on Sunday.
This never happens but I had to have my picture taken with them.
We even got to meet Ikey Owens (keyboard player of Free Moral Agents and The Mars Volta)
Next up, Dignan is playing a show at Club Deville on Sunday. Hooray for shooting a Valley band

On another note, Girl in a Coma this Thursday, photos Friday!…or Saturday. :] Also, I’m working on business cards. There’s plenty of things I should be working on like getting a passport and getting a tripod. Unfortunately, I have too many needs on that list and not enough money to take care of them all, but that’s everyone’s deal. I can’t wait to get back to learning some skills I can utilize at school. Here’s hoping ACC doesn’t screw me over again in the spring. and that’s all !
work over labor day weekend
I spent the long weekend among photos assignments and plenty of appreciated downtime.
On Friday I shot Maneja Beto’s show at Mohawk. I’d heard of them for quite some time but never had the opportunity to see them live. The show was great and the crowd’s enthusiasm gave it an awesome vibe.
Saturday was full of many many bowls and dvds. and yesterday I shot La Guerrilla’s album cover at the airport. That shoot was quite the experience, I had to work with maximum portability (no external lights, not even a tripod). But I got to work with some fun and easy going people and the photos worked out great! I’ll post photos from the shoot after their album comes out around late October.
involuntary hiatus
I haven’t posted anything new recently. clearly. My laptop’s been indisposed because the charger doesn’t work. I’ve still been out shooting, but my memory sticks are about to run out of space because I haven’t been able to upload anything…so I need to fix this fast. I’m still working, but not for long without my lappy 
My friends Trae and Gabee came up to see Incubus this past week and stayed with us for a few days. Their visit kept me entertained and productive, but I ended up spending quite a bit a money just from going out with them…on the most random things too, like an octopus necklace and a set of Shakespearean magnets for improvising sentences on the fridge.
I went to Waterloo with them on Wednesday and that’s where I saw the Cryptomnesia record. Just holding it made me convert to vinyl. forever. Since then Fernie has bought me a record player and the Cryptomnesia album (he spoils me, obviously, but they were birthday gifts)

La Guerrilla
Last night I met with the editor and collaborators of ‘Austin Vida’, an online magazine focused on mostly local, latino music. I took some photos of a band they’re featuring, La Guerrilla, and talked about becoming a collaborator myself. It seems like an altogether good way to get some valuable experience.
Anyway, La Guerrilla was a really fun band and they did an awesome cover of Los Fabulosos’ ‘Matador’ !
in Elgin
I took Fernie and Nate out to Elgin yesterday to attempt some band photos for And Venus. Considering I suck at giving any kind of direction and they didn’t really know what they were doing the end result was pretty good. It gave us a few ideas for next time when Bob will be able to make it out and be in the photos.
The entire shoot was quite adventurous. about a third of the way through the shoot a man walking by an old rusted warehouse where we were shooting told us he worked there and that he could let us in if we wanted. I was totally down to get some interesting shots in there, thinking that he’d show us the way in and leave, but as he walked us deeper and deeper into the property I could tell we all started getting the feeling we were about to get murdered. The warehouse looked like a scene from a sadistic torture film, full of old dingy machinery, low lights, a random wall of antique television sets, and a death machine he showed us that was for sharpening knives of some sort…all of which I failed to capture clearly because all I wanted was to get out of there. As soon as we spotted an open door we politely thanked him, got out, and agreed amongst ourselves that we probably wouldn’t be so lucky the next time. but he was probably just some bored drunk guy enjoying random company.
and so I’ve learn to be more cautious when I trespass..
My first photography job
I hear a lot of people mock a person for calling themselves a photographer just because they have a camera.
Well I think I’m decent and I just got paid so I’m going to call myself a photographer.
I was finally able to take photos of my boss’ kids earlier this week and I’m pretty satisfied with the outcome.
Next week I’ll be taking some senior portraits for a friend at work. hooray for entrepreneurship !
And Venus
I went to high school with these guys, we’re all pretty close friends (the drummer is my boyfriend :} ) They write truly dynamic and exciting music that’s easy to listen to…and I’m not just saying that because I love them !
